The Traditional Music of Appalachia


When we refer to the music and culture of a geographic area, ultimately we designate an ethnicity to the people who live ( or have lived ) there because of the things they share in common that sets them apart from the people outside of it. Among the obvious characteristics such as family, language, food, history and religion, there is music, dance, songs and stories.

The region known as Appalachia includes 423 counties across 13 states, all of which physically share the Appalachian Mt range.
